If you have a child that does not move in the world easily, that is different, unique, and perhaps perceived as deficient in some way by the rest of the world, perhaps it is because they are more like an X-Men? X-Men are people (not just kids!) that have difficulty with linear thinking, focus, and often times don’t understand why or how things work the way they do. What if this is a greatness rather than a wrongness? X-Men have a totally different way of navigating the world that is far different than most people are willing to function. When they get into the brilliance of those so-called deficiencies – that are actually their strongness – they can begin to function more naturally, and from a far more alive, joyful, and easeful space. Sometimes it’s just about learning to see ourselves and each other from a different perspective. Here are 5 tips for parents of X-Men children – that just might apply to you as well!
- If your child has X-Men capacities, or autistic tendencies, recognize that speaking in linear terms will not get you very far! Speak to them energetically and in pictures. For example, for ease in getting out the door in the mornings, show them the whole scene psychically and with images – them putting their shoes on, getting their things, getting in the car, etc. They are fast and this type of communication works so much better for X-Men kids!
- Ask them what they know. Empower them! Be curious about them and with them. X-Men have immense awareness about the world around them that goes largely unacknowledged. When you ask them questions, and are curious about their awareness, they will begin to recognize that they are not wrong, but actually aware, and different! Giving kids the gift of knowing they can navigate the world energetically is a gift they will have for their whole lives!
- Don’t expect them to be linear, or to focus on anything the way other people would. People with ADD/ADHD tendencies have a capacity to hold many things in their awareness simultaneously, and often have information coming to them very rapidly. Expecting them to be able to isolate one thing and focus on it is unreasonable, and it doesn’t acknowledge how they function. Encourage them to do many things simultaneously and acknowledge that this can be very relaxing for an X-Men. Sometimes doing homework with the TV on and playing a video game will be far easier for them than trying to just do the homework. For many X-Men, that is too slow and too boring!
- Teach them how to expand their zone of awareness. Often, when we function differently than others, we tend to make it wrong and collapse our zone of awareness. When that happens, it’s far more difficult to function in the world because you don’t have all of your resources and awareness available to you. Anybody can expand the energetic zone that they function from by just asking for it to expand – and perceiving the space. You can teach your kids to do that in order to have a lot more ease navigating the world and knowing what is theirs.
- Everything is the opposite of what it appears to be, and nothing is the opposite of what it appears to be! This is a key X-Men tool! If there is something that your child is having trouble with, it could be because that thing doesn’t make sense to them. The world doesn’t make a lot of sense to X-Men! The beauty of that is that it is because they know something far different and greater is possible. Learn to look from a perspective of curiosity with them at how they move in the world – not from wrongness. The question, “What is right about me that I’m not getting?” is a powerful question for X-Men to function from in every area of their lives.
